Texas Posse HEADED OUT FOR THE RIDE!! . (L To R) Erick, Eric, Denis and Mike head toward the Trail
Considering that the event had originally been
scheduled for the first weekend in November, which turned out to be very
wet and soggy here in South Texas, it was a Godsend when the event had to
be rescheduled for 27-29 October. What a great weekend it
turned out to be! We could not have asked for better
weather...clear sunny skies and just a hint of humidity! We had a
turnout of most of the Posse membership...17 total, plus 7 horses and 5
dogs! Doug 'n' Drew did a helluva job coordinating the event, not
only making all the reservations for the campsites with guys and gals arriving
on different days and times, and providing everybody with all the
information...including directions :-)...we needed to get there, but
also by providing much of the eats. I mean, everybody brought some
specialty to share but DnD went beyond sharing. There was food aplenty,
from main meals to snacks. Their campsite served as the main gatherin' place
for the first day and a half. When Posse coordinator Mike and partner Mark got
there Saturday afternoon, it became a moveable feast to their campsite.
Hey, it's hard to turn away from a pitcherfull of margaritas, some hard
likker and plenty a suds! Couple all a that with some talented
joke tellers and goodnatured trash talkin', well, you got yourself a
Major Party goin' on til the wee hours of the night! (Or was
it mornin' already?!)
Oh, yeah...there was trailridin', too!
Mike and Doug 'n' Drew, Erick and Denis brought some beautiful mounts which
they shared with Greg 'n' Justin, Eric and Matt. Scott 'n' Blaine
rode into camp in the middle of the night on their own version of Equus...a
coupla black and shiny ironhorses! Mark brought the dogs, as
did Greg 'n' Justin and Susan 'n' Tana. Susan and Jake
brought the cameras.
Again, our hats off to Doug 'n' Drew for puttin'
this event together so well. To those of you who didn't make it to
the event, we wanna say we missed you guys. We know some of
you had previous commitments you couldn't get out of and that a couple of you
were off to the Nationals in Oklahoma City makin' all of us proud of your
achievements there, but we missed ya. Hope you can make it to the
next time we get together, even if it's just for moanin' coffee.
