Those of you who know me, know that I can't keep my mouth shut about things that bother me. Using steroids to enhance sports performance bothers me. Greatly. If you use steroids and don't want your cage rattled, go away now.
My opposition to them stems mainly from the misguided attempt of others to justify their use. I'd really like to hear someone tell me that they use steroids because they want to have that muscular, thick look that attracts all the chicks and commands the respect and admiration of other men.  Heck, I'll probably do a steroid cycle myself one of these days for cosmetic reasons.  I don't see it as being different than coloring your hair or getting a nose job.  It's all vanity, after all.  My problem with steriod use is in the competitive arena.
Is there a legitimate use for steroids in sports? Yes - in rehabilitation they can speed recovery of damaged tissues. But if you use them in training to gain an edge over the competition, that's wrong. What's the matter? Can't you compete with what God gave you? Then maybe you need to find yourself a sport where you can be competitive without cheating. What? You say that all the other competitors are using them? Well, when did you start being such a lemming that you forgot about such things as pride? What about ethics? If you use steroids, could you really look at that trophy in the case with as much pride as you would if you'd competed without chemical assistance? Nothing illustrates the "win at any cost" mentality like steroid use, and it disgusts me.
Steroids won't make you big overnight, and as Blaine points out eloquently in another part of this site, they won't make you grow without tremendous work on your part. But they DO give you an unfair boost that you wouldn't otherwise have. And I have a problem with that.
Enough said.
